Low Back Pain, Part 1

Symptoms, causes and cures.

A number of patients in Cincinnati, Blue Ash, and Montgomery visit our chiropractic clinic in Montgomery looking for answers for their back pain issues.

Engineering wonder

The lumbar spine, or low back, is an amazingly well-engineered machine. Consisting of articulated bones, joints, nerves, ligaments, and discs or structures work together to support our bodies allowing us to bend move and stretch.

Your spine it is designed so well it is able to protect our spinal cord as well as all outgoing nerve. Fortunately it is able to and perform its job perfectly more than 99% of the time.

Due to its complex nature people can find themselves affected afflicted with pain in the spine as well as the legs in the case of sciatica.

Our Goal Today

To have you understand how your body works. This includes your symptoms, your physical findings, different forms of imaging and how we can come to a precise diagnosis.
Once a proper diagnosis and the cause of your pain is found then effective treatment be explored based on today’s best science and best practices.

What Can Go Wrong

The low back supports our body weight and keeps us mobile allowing us to bend and twist. Likewise, our low back muscles flex and rotate our hips in sync while walking, as well as keeping us upright. The nerves exiting your low back supply all feeling and power to our hips, legs, and feet.

Healing Response

Most of the time these symptoms are the result of an injury to the our muscular and skeletal structures. That may include muscles, ligaments, joints, or discs. For that reason, your body may also go through an inflammatory healing response. Inflammation can lead to severe pain.

The Problem of Overlapping Nerves

The nerve supply to many of your muscles, ligaments, and discs overlap. This can confuse the brain as to where the pain is actually coming from. For example, the pain from a damaged disc is similar to a pulled muscle as there can be inflammation and muscle spasms causing pain in the same area.

I want you to feel empowered as we take a deep dive on this subject over the next few weeks. This topic is dear to me after, therefore I've spent the last 22 years helping people with this problem.
